What is ABC?

The Assistant Referee Bonus Certification Program, produced by Victoria Quidditch, is a certification system for elevating the caliber of assistant referees in the quidditch community, and for providing additional compensation to these referees.

ABC is built on the foundation of a textbook, also written by Victoria Quidditch with support from referees across the USA, and consists of an online exam, linked to on this page. Passing this exam authorizes an individual to be added to a database of Silver ARs, who are entitled to be entered into raffles at ABC-Compliant Tournaments for tournament merchandise or equivalent compensation.

After passing the certification exam, ARs may then take field tests, either by being observed by Proctors refereeing actual games or by completing simulations (instructions found here). Successful passage entitles them to monetary payment for ARing at ABC-Compliant tournaments at the Gold and at the Platinum level.

The training courses being built on this website are NOT required to be completed. They are simply to help introduce new assistant referees to the mechanics of working as an AR. They are also not focused on the rules but rather on the execution of enforcing the rules, as are all the materials found here. The rules knowledge itself is enforced by USQ and this program is not intended to compete with but rather complement that certification process.

Recruitment is now open for Assistant Referee Candidates, ABC Proctors, and Tournament Directors who are invited to implement ABC at their tournaments! Thank you and good luck!
